National SMART Grant
What Is the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant?
National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants are awarded
to full-time, third- and fourth-year undergraduates who pursue a qualified major
(see below). Eligible students may receive as much as $4,000 for each of their third
and fourth years. Like other
federal grants,
the SMART Grant is "free money," which means you don’t have to repay it!
SMART Grant Eligibility
To be eligible for a national SMART Grant, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be
Pell Grant-eligible;
- Major in one of the following areas: mathematics, technology, engineering, a critical
foreign language, a non-major single liberal arts program, or physical, life, or
computer sciences; and
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA in your major.
