National SMART Grant

What Is the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant?

National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants are awarded to full-time, third- and fourth-year undergraduates who pursue a qualified major (see below). Eligible students may receive as much as $4,000 for each of their third and fourth years. Like other federal grants, the SMART Grant is "free money," which means you don’t have to repay it!

SMART Grant Eligibility

To be eligible for a national SMART Grant, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be Pell Grant-eligible;
  • Major in one of the following areas: mathematics, technology, engineering, a critical foreign language, a non-major single liberal arts program, or physical, life, or computer sciences; and
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA in your major.
Racheal was very pleasant, and made it a great experience. I am fully relieved of a lot of the tension that I had, and I appreciate your service. Thank you very much.
