What Is a Student Aid Report (SAR)?

Your Student Aid Report (SAR) is a summary of the information that you provided on your federal student aid application (FAFSA). The Department of Education will send you your SAR once they have processed your FAFSA. If you completed your FAFSA online, expect to receive an e-mail notification about your SAR three to four days after submitting your FAFSA. If you completed a paper FAFSA, your SAR will arrive in the mail about four weeks after you submitted your FAFSA.

Check Your SAR for Accuracy

Be sure to take the time to review your SAR and check for accuracy. Your SAR reflects the information that's used to calculate your student aid. Mistakes can prevent you from receiving the student aid for which you are eligible! If you find any errors, you can make changes to your FAFSA and request an updated SAR.

I really appreciated having a person to walk me through my FAFSA. I tried to do it on-line two or three different times. This assistance was very much worth the investment. I appreciated being able to ask additional questions which the advisor was able to answer. Overall, the experience was good.
