Signing Your FAFSA

You've taken a huge step forward in the student aid process by preparing and submitting your federal student aid application (FAFSA)! To complete your FAFSA and move to the next phase of the student aid process, you must officially sign the application. There are three ways to sign your FAFSA: signing it online using a personal identification number (PIN), signing a printed signature page from your online FAFSA application, or signing your Student Aid Report (SAR).

  • Signing online with a PIN. The fastest way to sign your FAFSA is online using your PIN. To sign online, you must apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. Follow the directions to apply for a PIN or to request a duplicate PIN if you have forgotten yours. Once you have your pin, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and select "Sign Electronically with Your Pin" under the "Filling Out a FAFSA" tab.
  • Signing a printed FAFSA signature page. To print a FAFSA signature page, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and, under the navigation tab "FAFSA Follow-Up," select "Check Status of a Submitted FAFSA or Print Signature Page." Follow the directions for signing and submitting your signature page.
  • Signing your Student Aid Report. Once your FAFSA is processed, the federal Department of Education sends you a Student Aid Report (SAR), which is a summary of your aid application that shows your expected family contribution (EFC). When you receive your SAR, look for instructions on signing and mailing it back.
