Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
What Is an FSEOG?
The FSEOG is a
federal college grant
to help students with the greatest need for financial assistance. Eligible students
may receive as much as $4,000 a year.
FSEOG Eligibility and Requirements
Your need for financial assistance determines if you are eligible for an FSEOG.
Each college to which you apply will decide where you rank among others who are
in need of assistance. Generally, applicants with the lowest
expected family contributions (EFC)
qualify for an FSEOG. The awards for this grant range from $100 to $4,000 a year.
Pell Grant recipients have priority for the FSEOG.
Unlike with the
Pell Grant,
not all students who are eligible for the FSEOG receive the grant. Keep the following
factors in mind when applying to colleges:
- Not all colleges participate in the FSEOG program.
- The amount of aid you receive from other sources, including
loans,
other
grants
and
scholarships,
and
work study,
may alter the total amount you are awarded for the FSEOG.
- Funds are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to submit
your federal student aid application (FAFSA) as early as possible! January 1st is
the earliest date you can submit your FAFSA.
